Orange Tree with Blue Shadows, 1989
Robbin Yager makes etchings in brilliant colour using a unique and non-traditional two-plate process. The method reflects her large drawings which incorporate rich, dense colour, and her approach is free and open. Because of the time and labour involved, editions tend to be very small in number, usually under 20 prints, and when an edition is finished, the plates are used again, so remnants can sometimes be seen under the new print.
Robbin Yager was born in Kingston, Ontario, and now lives and works in Vancouver. She graduated from the Alberta College of Art and Design in 1977, and travelled extensively afterwards, to India, Nepal, and Europe. She later worked in Toronto at Open Studio, in Calgary at Alberta Printmakers, and in Vancouver at Malaspina Printmakers. In 1992 she established Push Pull Press in Calgary, where she printed editions until 2001. Yager’s work has been exhibited and collected widely across Canada and the United States, and has been included in major print shows Peru, Holland, West Germany, Finland, and Slovenia. She has won awards for her prints over the years and has received several grants from Alberta Culture and the Canada Council. She is a past member and member of the board of directors at Malaspina Printmakers.
